Often, one is asked to speak to Church Workers.
I find this teaching very effective in energizing workers in our Churches to become more effective. This is based on the account of Exodus 17:8-13
The first attack on the Israelite after leaving Egypt was in Rephidim by the Amalek. Moses in response to the threat from the Amalekites instructed Joshua to choose men to go out to fight the Amalek the next day while he stands on the top of the hill with the rod of God in his hands.
In verse 10, Joshua obeyed Moses but interestingly, the bible recounts that Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill with Moses. For as long as Moses held up his hands Israel prevailed and when he let his hands down the Amalek prevailed. In response, Aaron and Hur took a stone and asked Moses to sit on it, while they held up his hands on either sides until the going down of the sun and this led to the eventual the victory over the Amalek.
Key Points
Big Picture - Aaron and Hur probably saw the big picture; Moses might need help so they decided to go along.
Initiative - Aaron and Hur took it upon themselves to follow their leader. There is no account of Moses asking them to come along.
Availability - Aaron and Hur made themselves available
Problem Solvers - They had to find a way to stop the Amalek from prevailing over Israel
Commitment - The stood by Moses until the going down of the Sun; probably for hours
Ownership - Aaron and Hur took ownership of the problem at hand
Collective Victory - The victory came to the whole of Israel; not just Joshua or Moses
Key Take Away
When workers join hands to help their leader, they all collectively win the battle against the enemy. The Battle is not just for the leader to fight. There is corporate victory when all hands are on deck, all workers are committed to the vision of the leader or church.
